All in One (AIO)
These are the most similar to a disposable nappy in that very little preparation is required for them to be ready to go. The absorbent inner is attached to the waterproof wrap and no "stuffing" is required, although boosters can be added to increase absorbency
All in Two (AI2)
Also known as a hybrid, they are very similar to the AIO, however the absorbent inner will pop out of the wrap allowing you to re-use the wrap with a new insert and to increase drying speeds.
Birth to Potty (BTP)
Occasionally called one-size, refers to adjustable nappies which should fit from birth(ish) to - potty training, generally these nappies fit from 8-10lb up to 35lb. Most people will need to wait a few weeks for BTP to fit and some bigger babies may outgrow them before potty training, however one-size fits most.
A traditional terry towel, pre-fold or muslin nappy, will require folding and fastening with a Nappy Nippa. Flat nappies are fully absorbent and will require a waterproof wrap over the top.
As the name implies, the nappy is made with just the waterproof wrap and a fleece liner, there is then a pocket for you to "stuff" your chosen insert or boosters into.
The most absorbent of all of the nappy types because these will be made entirely from hemp, bamboo or cotton, the entire nappy is absorbent but not waterproof so a wrap will be required.
There is no absorbency at all within a wrap, these are designed to go over the top of your shaped nappy to protect baby's clothes from the moisture.
Usually made from hemp, bamboo, cotton or microfibre, boosters can be added to any nappy to increase absorbency or allow overnight use.
Similar to a booster, pocket and AI2 nappies require inserts to make them absorbent, some inserts can be interchangeable from brand to brand, some will only be compatible with their own.
Available in either reusable or disposable, the liner sits between the nappy and baby's bottom to catch poo and save as much from reaching the nappy as possible.
Polyurethane laminate (PUL)
Most wraps are coated in PUL to make them waterproof but still breathable.
Excellent Used Condition, describes a nappy which is almost as new, generally these should have been pre-washed only or used once or twice.
In Search Of, if you're looking for a particular print or brand, list an ISO post and sellers may contact you if they have what you're looking for.
Good Used Condition, usually has had a long life but is still perfectly functional, the elastics may be slightly slack and some signs of wear, nothing which affects the use.
Very Good Used Condition, the nappy has been used for a few months, no stinks or stains, elastics, PUL and velcro are all still as new.
